Tax Services For The Creative Professional
About Us

If you’re working in any of the creative disciplines, whether it’s music, ceramics, theatre, or web site production, then you’ve probably found yourself in a unique tax situation.

A&E Tax Service, Inc. – founded by Michael Davidson in 1992 – serves this distinctive clientele. After many years in the Arts and Entertainment business himself, from promotion and production of shows, to stage management and stage hand work, he has a great deal of first-hand experience running a small business in the arts world and is intimately familiar with the complicated tax laws for these types of enterprises. Michael realized that many of his peers did not use these laws to their best advantage, nor was there much small business expertise available for the arts community.

Michael Davidson

The business has grown and evolved over the years to encompass people beyond the theatre where Michael had his roots. Many of our clients are visual, ceramic, or video artists as well as purveyors of intellectual property and other small businesses. Our clients participate in and appreciate Arts and Entertainment.

And more: Our staff brings broad personal and professional experience to the task. Our knowledge bases and personalities overlap and complement as well as contrast. We are as diverse as our client base. To learn more...

The A&E Team

Michael Davidson

Michael: How many tax guys do you know who can work a follow spot? Michael spent many years in New York City working as a stage hand and as a lighting, scenery, and production designer. He was also instrumental in bringing the Big Top back to New York with the Big Apple Circus. In 1979, Michael moved to the Pacific Northwest to manage theatre for Seattle Community College before settling in Portland to produce shows through his own company, Michael Davidson Presents. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Pomona College and studied Stagecraft in the Master’s program at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh.

Michael believes strongly in continuing education and is constantly enriching his broad knowledge base. He is a Licensed Tax Consultant and an Enrolled Agent, a Federal Tax Designation allowing him to represent clients with the Internal Revenue Service.

Rebecca Noyes

Rebecca: Rebecca has been with A&E for more than four years.  In that time she has gone from back-room office assistant to Enrolled Agent, Licensed Tax Consultant and Office Administrator.  Rebecca enjoys taking the many puzzle pieces that make up a tax return, putting them together, and presenting a clear picture that clients can understand and build from.  When not in the office; she spends time with the love in her life, Darren and their beautiful family.

Stan Christiansen

Stan: In preparation of the 2011 Tax Season we’ve added a new member to the team. Stan Christiansen is an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service, a Licensed Tax Consultant with the Oregon Department of Revenue, and holds a BA in Accounting from Portland State University. Stan’s approach is calculated, methodical, and thorough. He looks at every angle to get the best possible return for his clients.

In his spare time, Stan enjoys riding the open roads on his motorcycle accompanied by his partner of 20 years, Alan.

His animal companions are Simon, a 14+ year-old Irish setter/Lab and 3 feral cats named Abigail, Medusa, and Macy Grey.

Carol Wild

Carol: What do verbs, trees and 1040's all have in common? They are all part of Carol Wild's background. She started her professional life as a French major out of Linfield College which logically led to: living in a mud hut in West Africa; a Master's degree in Tropical Forestry from the University of Florida (go Gators); marriage to a fellow Oregonian who was living close to the mud hut in West Africa; more work in West Africa; and, finally (for now) to becoming a Licensed Tax Preparer in 2004 and Licensed Tax Consultant in 2007. Enrolled Agent next? Feel free to ask her how many languages in which she can say "tree seedling" when you meet her.

Patti Johnson

Patti: Patti Johnson keeps us together and brings an added benefit – she is the only one with legible handwriting! She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and has worked in promotion and public relations for most of her career. When she is not serving as our administrative lifeline she volunteers through Hospice Oregon and the Dove Lewis Animal Assisted Therapy Program.

Tina Boyd

Tina: Tina Boyd is our new Front Desk Administrator and "go to" girl on many fronts. In addition to this, she just became a Licensed Tax Preparer and has plans of continuing her education to become an Enrolled Agent. When she is not in the office performing her magic, you can bet she is out hiking on some trail or finding some new adventure to jump into. She loves to garden, mushroom hunt and travel to exotic destinations.

Alex Ernie

Alex: Alex Ernie joined A&E in January of 2008, having taken the position of office assistant and die-hard organizer. Alex has just completed his BA with a double major in Applied Linguistics and Arts & Letters with a minor in German at PSU.  He will soon be learning payroll at A&E.  During his free time he is an avid walker, loves to travel and go the movies with his partner, and looks forward to getting wrapped up in a great book.

Brian Ernie

Brian: Brian Ernie joined A&E in December of 2011 as the newest office assistant. He is the twin brother to Alex Ernie who joined the company in 2008. Alex joined the company first, but you know what they say…age before beauty! Brian is currently working towards a double BA degree in HR and Management from Portland State with hopes of graduating in Fall 2012. In his free time Brian likes to Travel and experience different cities and their cultures. As an avid food-lover, there is no restaurant in town that Brian has not been to. Brian also loves to spend time with his family, partner, and his pets.
